ZACHARY — The community is coming together this weekend to support a woman who lost everything in a house fire earlier this year.
The fire happened on April 21 on Lemon Road. The homeowner, Doris Armstrong, and her friend who was living with her were both home when it happened. Her friend, a 64-year-old-man, died. Doris’ son, Jason, said his mom suffered minor injuries.
Doris’ home was a total loss. Jason said the cause of the fire was a lamp. “She had some clothes hanging by that lamp, and that’s what caused it,” he said.
This weekend, to help her get back on her feet and rebuild her life, there will be a benefit dinner.
It’s planned for Saturday, Oct. 4 at John Arthur Stewart House (23888 Plank Road) in Zachary from 11 a.m. until they’re sold out.
You can get pastalaya and fried fish for $12 a plate. Cash will only be accepted at pickup. There will also be music and you’re encouraged to bring chairs and coolers.
