BATON ROUGE — A new hospital specializing in complex microsurgery and breast reconstruction for breast cancer survivors is set to open in Baton Rouge on May 1.
The hospital will also host a blessing ceremony on April 3.
The ReCenter will be located near the intersection of Jefferson Highway and Stumberg Lane. It will feature 10 inpatient rooms and six operating rooms, along with a medical office building that includes an ambulatory surgery center.
Dessa Frederick, a representative of the hospital, said they will offer a state-of-the-art procedure for breast cancer survivors, among other services.
“People who have been diagnosed with breast cancer will come on in. It’s a new procedure called the flap that our doctors will be performing on these patients,” Frederick explained.
The procedure involves transferring tissue from another part of the body to create a new breast shape.
While the surgery is currently available at facilities in the Greater New Orleans area, ReCenter will be the first to offer this advanced procedure in Baton Rouge.
The hospital was founded by Dr. Luke Cusimano III and Dr. Taylor Theunissen, with Dr. Everett Bonner serving as chief medical officer.
A private blessing of the facility will take place on April 3rd.
“We’ll have admin doctors. We’ll have food and stuff, and we’ll all mingle. It’s just a blessing,” Frederick said.
