New Iberia’s missing DJ died in a car crash

BATON ROUGE — The body of a missing DJ from New Iberia has been found in West Baton Rouge Parish, West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

Jeffery Joseph Leon, 53, known as ‘DJ Jazzy Jeff’ drove to Baton Rouge for a Zydeco band at the Basin Music Hall on 3rd St. in downtown Baton Rouge on Friday, Aug. 11th.

After he was finished, Leon called his wife around 2:30am on Saturday, Aug. 12th advising her that he was stopping for gas and then headed back home to New Iberia.

WBRSO said that Leon then drove into West Baton Rouge parish where he stopped for gas. After he left that gas station, he is said to have wrecked his vehicle and did not survive his injuries.

It appears Leon was on I-10 westbound between WBR and Grosse Tete near mile marker 147 where he drove off into the woods crashing his SUV.

The West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office is now working with the Baton Rouge Police Dept., who had been working the missing person’s case since Monday.

As of now, no foul play is suspected.
