New Roads man’s attempt to kill himself fails after shooting, killing wife

A husband shot and killed his wife but when he attempted to turn the gun on himself, the bullet came out beneath his nose.

New Roads Police officers are investigating a domestic disturbance that turned deadly.

It happened Feb. 24th around 5pm in the 1100 block of St. Mary St.

Chief Kevin McDonald said James Cobb, 61, shot & killed his wife Veronica Cobb, 62, and then attempted to kill himself. However, Chief McDonald said Cobb shot below his chin and the bullet came out beneath his nose.

He was transported to a hospital for mouth surgery. Once he recovers, he will be charged for his wife’s murder. Chief McDonald said he’s expected to meet with the assistant district attorney tomorrow for Pointe Coupee Parish to determine the charges.
