NEW ROADS —- White Castle Police & St. Gabriel Police arrested a fired New Roads Police officer for allegedly pawning their duty-issued weapons as well. On Friday, New Roads Police Chief Louis Hamilton terminated one of their own after an internal investigation found Stacy Paul allegedly pawned his duty-issued guns while working at New Roads PD.
Stacy Paul turned himself into the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s Office on Friday, May 23.
The investigation by New Roads brought to light information for White Castle & St. Gabriel that made both agencies go back and dig. St. Gabriel says on Paul’s last day of work in October 2024, he turned in all his equipment, including the gun. However, they have now learned he allegedly pawned the gun, but went and retrieved it to turn it in before he left St. Gabriel PD for New Roads PD.
White Castle says they had a missing gun they could not locate and have now learned it was allegedly pawned by Paul. Both agencies arrested Paul on May 28th and charged him with one count of malfeasance in office per agency.
Chief Louis Hamilton told UWK Paul, 26, was placed on administrative leave on May 21 after he was called in due to his conduct and delayed reports. Chief Hamilton said Paul denied everything and hence, he was placed on administrative leave.
Per procedure, anytime an officer is put on administrative leave, they must turn in all their equipment. Per their own inventory, New Roads PD showed two guns issued to Paul, but they were not turned in.
When asked about the guns, Chief Hamilton said Paul said the rifle was at his safe at his home. That triggered an investigation by New Roads PD.
“We did not find it at home though. Instead, with the help of Baton Rouge PD, we found our guns pawned at two pawn shops in Baton Rouge, one handgun and one rifle,” said Chief Hamilton.
It’s why Chief Hamilton says a warrant was issued for Paul’s arrest for a count of malfeasance in office on May 22nd. Paul turned himself in the following day.
“We want people to know we are accountable. We are transparent. If we don’t govern our own, how can we govern the people and that conduct from an officer is unbecoming,” Chief Hamilton said regarding the arrested New Roads officer.
During their investigation, Chief Hamilton says they learned that Paul had also allegedly pawned guns while working at other area police departments: White Castle PD & St. Gabriel PD.
Investigations are now underway into Paul allegedly pawning those duty-issued guns by those agencies.
Paul started with New Roads PD in October of 2024 and worked in uniform patrol.
