BATON ROUGE — A New Roads Police officer has been relieved of his duties after East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s deputies arrested him following a controlled purchase of Oxycodone.
Quincey Lathers, 44, was arrested and charged with distribution of a Schedule II narcotic, possession of a Schedule V narcotic (promethazine with codeine), and illegal carrying of a firearm while in possession of drugs.
East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office’s Gang Intelligence and Enforcement deputies received information in late January that a police officer was allegedly distributing prescription pills in the Baton Rouge area. Investigators identified the officer as Lathers, who was employed by the New Roads Police Department in Pointe Coupee Parish.
On Feb. 4, deputies conducted a controlled purchase of Oxycodone from Lathers. He was stopped and arrested shortly after the alleged transaction. Deputies say his police uniform and duty weapon were found in the backseat of his vehicle.
Investigators, with assistance from Livingston Parish Sheriff’s deputies, later executed a search warrant at Lathers’ home on Lockhart Road. Authorities say they recovered promethazine with codeine and an additional firearm.
During questioning, deputies say Lathers admitted to distributing Oxycodone on two occasions.
The New Roads Police Department terminated Lathers’ employment effective immediately following his arrest.
