BATON ROUGE — A fiery car accident early Sunday morning claimed the life of Simone Pillette, an employee at the East Baton Rouge Mayor-President’s office.
Simone Pillette, 26, was driving a 2014 Lincoln MKZ east on Interstate 12 when her vehicle crashed with another car and went off the road before it caught on fire, according to Baton Rouge Police. Pillette did not survive the fiery crash.
The accident happened around 1 a.m. Sunday when the front driver side tire of Pillette’s car hit the back tire of a 2018 Jeep Wrangler. The impact caused Pillette to lose control, sending her car off the road and into a tree, where it was engulfed in flames, according to BRPD.
Pillette worked as the office manager for Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome, where Broome said Pillette played a vital role in the day-to-day operations of the office. In a statement released Sunday, Mayor Broome referred to her as a “devoted leader” and highlighted her dedication and leadership.
“Beyond her professional contributions, Simone was a beautiful and caring person who lit up the room with her presence and brought positive energy to everyone around her,” Broome said. “Her love for God was evident in everything she did, guiding her interactions with grace and compassion.”
The Baton Rouge Police Department continues its investigation into the crash.
