Officials & family still searching for man last seen in Baton Rouge in August 2023

ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH — It’s been six months since Marcus Oubre went missing following a car crash, and law enforcement have had no luck finding him.

St. John the Baptist Sheriff’s Office announced on March 5th that they investigated Oubre’s disappearance and connected it to an abandoned car near La. 3213 and Veterans Memorial Bridge.

Officials say investigators believe Oubre was driving the car when it crashed. Family members say Oubre was last seen driving a white Honda Accord on Aug. 23 near LSU at around 10 p.m. but he nor his body were ever found near the crash site. East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office officials say Oubre was reported missing on Aug. 27.

“It’s definitely hurting, but I really just want to hear from him,” said one family member. “We want to hear something. We want to come to some sort of conclusion or something. Everything is kind of quiet right now, which we don’t want. We don’t want his case to grow cold. We don’t want it to go quietly.”

Family members say Oubre is loved by many and dearly missed.

“He is loving and caring and will give you the shirt off his back,” the family member said. “If he didn’t have but a couple of dollars in his pocket, he’d give that person most of it. He is a lovable person. He’s liked all around. He’s fun. He is a peaceful person. He’s sweet. He’s an amazing person. When you meet him, you will always be his friend no matter where you go or where you’ve been.”

“That is what’s so puzzling,” she continued. “It’s not like him to not say anything. He loves his family.”

Anyone with information on Oubre’s whereabouts should contact Detective Joseph Smith at EBRSO at 225-337-9592, Capt. Brandon Barlow at the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office at 504-494-2674 or the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office TIPS line at 985-359-TIPS.

There is a balloon release scheduled for Sunday March 10th, which is Oubre’s 38th birthday. The release will be near the location of the car crash.
