Officials investigating a suspect’s hanging while in a holding cell

BATON ROUGE — Law enforcement officials are investigating a hanging that took place at the Louisiana State Police headquarters, in which one person has died.

Multiple sources tell Unfiltered with Kiran that Baton Rouge Police had arrested Kiyle Lashawn Maxwell, 25, and taken him to a holding cell at the Violent Crimes Unit, or VCU, which is located at the State Police Headquarters.

It happened around 1pm on Thursday, Aug. 10th on Independence Blvd., off of Florida Blvd.

Maxwell was arrested in connection to a shooting Thursday morning on N. Lobdell Blvd. While he was in the holding cell to be questioned, sources say he somehow hanged himself.

The procedure for bringing in a suspect is that officers will taken their arrestee to a holding cell inside the VCU. That person is questioned and if deemed necessary, the person is charged and then transported to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

It’s unclear if the person was left alone for a long period of time or what circumstances led to the hanging at this time.
