Officials investigating four shootings today, two of them homicides

Two people have died in four separate shootings on Wednesday, Feb. 2nd in Baton Rouge. Plus, a pregnant woman was shot.

Baton Rouge Police have responded to two separate homicides today, plus a shooting and the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting with a non-life threatening injury.

The most recent happened around 8pm on S. Acadian Thruway between Claycut Rd. & Capital Heights Ave. when officers responded to a crash. The driver of the crashed vehicle had been shot multiple times and rushed to a hospital. 

Before that at 5:30pm, East Baton Rouge deputies were at the Oakleigh Apartments off Perkins between Bluebonnet & Siegen. Deputies responded to a call for shots fired and found a pregnant woman shot in the back with the bullet having exited her abdomen. Both baby and mother are doing okay. 

Before that, around 4pm in the 5900 block of Cadillac St., BRPD officers found a 36-yr-old woman shot. Unfortunately, she died on the scene. 

Around 4am at the Sleep Inn on Plaza Americana Dr., David Mendez admitted to officers that he shot and killed his roommate Juan Reyes Lugos, 26, after an argument. Mendez was arrested and charged with 2nd degree murder and illegal use of a weapon. 

That’s two homicides just today for BRPD and 10 total for the year so far.
