Officials recover body from pond after man drowns while fishing

BATON ROUGE —- Multiple agencies responded to reports of a man who went missing while fishing Thursday night.

It was around 9:50 p.m. when East Side & St. George Fire and Dive teams responded to Hooper Rd. and Breeden Dr. There was a pond near the back of a large field at the location, where a man had been fishing.

His family reported finding all his belongings at the location, including his fishing equipment, but the man was not there.

Dive teams entered the water and looked in several spots. It was around midnight when divers found his body.

It’s unclear how the man ended up in the water, but an autopsy and toxicology will be completed to determine the exact cause and manner of death.
