An East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff‘s deputy was shot while following up on a violation of a temporary protective order at the Hub apartments. She had two other deputies and a field training deputy with her to followup on the violation.
The deputy was shot in the leg and has a non-life threatening injury after officials say two pit bulls ran out when the suspect did finally open the door.
It happened around 10:30am at Highland Rd. and West Lee Dr. in Baton Rouge.
Officials say when the suspect opened the door, two of the three pit bull dogs came at the door and there was a struggle. One of the dogs is said to have latched onto the deputy’s leg. That’s when she ended up shot but it’s unclear if the shot was self-inflicted, from the field training deputy with her or from the person who the protective order was meant for.
Sources say the deputy did fire a round as did her field training deputy. One of the pit bulls was killed.
The deputy was transported to a hospital. A possible suspect was detained for questioning.
