SHOOTER IN CUSTODY

Officers and paramedics responded to the 1700 block of N. Sherwood Forest Blvd. for a shooting that happened just after Noon on Easter Sunday.

Baton Rouge Police say a 15-yr-old and 10-month-old were injured in the shooting. The children were transported to a hospital and are in stable condition.

After being barricaded inside a home on N. Sherwood Forest Blvd. for five hours, Jolenda Evans, 31, was taken into custody. Officials say negotiators and her family members assisted to get her out of the home safely.

It’s believed Evans suffers from a medical condition, possibly mental health. Sources say Evans may have been off her medicine when she possibly had an episode and accidentally shot at the children. She did not intentionally shoot the kids, according to officials.

No one else was inside the home at the time of the shooting.

Brpd said the injured children are not her own kids, but are family members.

Evans is charged with two counts of aggravated 2nd degree battery & illegal use of a weapon
