SPRING CREEK — A 16-year-old was arrested and charged after an incident left a semi-truck driver severely injured in one eye. According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, an object was thrown from a vehicle and hit another, which happened to be the semi-truck’s windshield.
It was late on Sunday, Aug. 16, when a semi-truck driver was traveling on Highway 1054 near Forbes Road in the Spring Creek area. The windshield of the semi suddenly broke, shattering the glass which flew into the passenger compartment and hit the driver in the eye. The glass severely injured the eye, and the victim continues to receive medical treatment at this time, officials said.
TPSO’s investigation revealed that an occupant of a red, four-door sedan with chrome rims, which was passing the semi-truck in the opposite direction, allegedly threw an object at the semi’s windshield, causing it to break. Dash camera video in the semi-truck captured the incident and the suspect vehicle.
After sharing the video publicly, tips came in identifying the vehicle as a red truck, and investigators tracked down the truck to the Kentwood area. The 16-year-old male, who happened to be a passenger in the red truck, allegedly threw a large drink cup out of his window, which is what hit the semi’s windshield, officials say.
He was arrested and charged with one count of negligent injuring and one count simple criminal damage. Because of his juvenile status, his name and photo will not be released.
