Officials find child’s body in Galvez neighborhood pond hours after he went under

GALVEZ — Multiple first responders worked for hours to find the body of a child who went missing in a neighborhood pond on Monday evening and did not resurface.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office tell UWK that the child, believed to be around 12 years old, was in a canoe that overturned. The child reportedly did not reappear after falling into the water.

The incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. at the Keystone of Galvez subdivision, which is located near Joe Sevario Rd. and Devall Rd. It was around 12:30 a.m. when authorities pulled the child’s body from the pond. Officials say that the pond where the child went missing is considered reasonably deep.

Neighboring agencies’ dive teams assisted Ascension Parish officials to find the missing child.

The child’s name has not been released at this time, but he is a student at Galvez Middle School. The school says that grief counselors will be at Galvez Middle and Galvez Primary Tuesday.
