OLOL calling for blood donors as supply faces critical need

BATON ROUGE — The Our Lady of the Lake Blood Donor Center is facing a critical need for blood donations, especially from type O donors.

Type O blood is often used in emergency situations when there is not enough time to determine a patient’s blood type. Blood donations support patients treated for traumas, emergencies and procedures at Our Lady of the Lake (OLOL) facilities, as well as patients at other medical facilities across the greater Baton Rouge area. 

OLOL reports that type O blood inventory is reaching “critically low levels.”

Whether you have type O blood or another blood type, everyone who is able is encouraged to donate blood. Just one blood donation can save up to three lives, according to a press release.

To donate, visit one of the following OLOL Blood Donor Centers. Walk-ins are welcome:

Monday – Thursday: 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. 
Friday: 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. 
Saturday: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Monday – Friday: 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
