One arrested after photo with Santa in BR goes viral

The individual was arrested on his 29th birthday in Baton Rouge as a fugitive wanted in Texas. He now awaits extradition.

Two specific pictures went viral showing two men holding wads of money with Santa and one holding a gun. Soon after, law enforcement started digging trying to find the names of the two individuals.

The one in the burgundy colored jacket was identified as Almonzo Paul, 29, of Baton Rouge and has an active arrest warrant out of Harris County in TX. The man in the red and black jacket was identified as Daniel Ugbo.

Paul was arrested on his 29th birthday by the Louisiana State Police Task Force and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison as a fugitive for Harris County. He also has a parole violation through the Louisiana Office of Probation & Parole for a simple burglary. Plus, in East Baton Rouge Parish, Paul failed to show up for a review on a domestic abuse battery charge so now, a bench warrant has been issued for his arrest.

According to records dug up by Unfiltered with Kiran, Paul allegedly hit a woman on Nov. 10, 2021 in Harris County causing “bodily harm.” The following day, Nov. 11, 2021, a deputy from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office attempted to arrest Paul but he fled, according to records. Paul was eventually arrested and charged with aggravated assault & evading arrest.

A bond was set at $100 but the State of Texas had specific conditions for that bond:

  • no contact with the complainant or anyone in her family
  • state requested Paul not to possess any firearms, ammunition or other weapons
  • state asked judge to order Paul not to commit any crime or engage in conduct that could lead to his arrest

His next court date in TX was set for Dec. 3, 2021. According to records though, Paul did not show up for that hearing.

Paul was ordered to show up in court in East Baton Rouge Parish on July 23, 2021, but did not show up for that either. In this case, he went to court in early 2021 for a domestic abuse battery charge and changed his plea from not guilty to guilty. Paul had to enroll in a domestic violence offender program and check back in with the court on July 23, 2021. However, he was a no show hence a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.

Paul has numerous other arrests in Baton Rouge going back to 2015 for illegal possession of stolen things, forgery and burglary.

Paul will be extradited to Houston after the holidays.

Meanwhile, officials are still looking for the other individual in the pictures, Daniel Ugbo, for illegal carrying of a weapon. A search on Ugbo turned up an ongoing case in East Baton Rouge Parish for possession of marijuana and resisting an officer stemming from an incident in Oct. 2020.
