WALKER —- A vehicle speeding on I-12 eastbound turned into a pursuit, a passenger hanging out a window and three people fleeing.
Walker Police Chief David Addison said an officer patrolling the interstate for speeders clocked a vehicle going 90+mph.
“When the officer tried to stop them, they took off at the Walker exit and pretended to be stopping,” said Chief Addison. “But instead, they took off again by getting on I-12 headed towards Hammond.”
A pursuit started with the Walker officer following the vehicle. At one point, Chief Addison said a passenger is believed to have possibly shot at the officer.
“A passenger hung out a window and shot at my officer,” said Chief Addison.
He added they’re still investigating whether the passenger shot at the officer or if it was debris that hit the officer’s vehicle that sounded like a shooting.
The officer was not hit. He is okay, a bit shaken up, the chief said.
The vehicle finally road off the roadway near Albany before the trio inside fled.
One of the three was caught and arrested but the search continues for two more men.
“We do have their car and found drugs inside of it. We possibly have a gun too,” said Chief Addison.
Names of the three have not been released at this time and neither have the charges for the one person who was arrested.
