A 21-yr-old man was arrested & charged in connection to a shooting that happened during the Mardi Gras parade in St. Gabriel in Iberville Parish.

It was around 2:30pm on Sunday, Feb. 19th when St. Gabriel officers working extra duty at the parade heard gunshots coming from Landry & Fourth streets.

When officers arrived to the scene, they found a 22-year-old man who had been shot to the lower body. He was transported to a hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition.

Officers also saw two men running on foot from the scene. As one officers remained on the scene to provide medical aid to the victim unless paramedics arrived, two other officers chased the men seen fleeing.

Both men were caught and officials say both had guns on them. The two were taken to the St. Gabriel Police Dept. where officials say 21-yr-old Vontaveon Brown did confess to the shooting. Officials added a fight is what led up to the shooting.
