BATON ROUGE — An investigation is underway after one person was found dead inside a submerged vehicle that ended up in a pond in East Baton Rouge Parish.
It was early Sunday morning around 4:30 a.m. when multiple agencies including St. George Fire Dept. and East Side Fire Department’s dive team responded to the area of Bluebonnet Blvd. & Harveston Way in response to a vehicle that was in a pond. That’s just off of Bluebonnet Blvd. between Nicholson Dr. & Burbank Dr.
When officials responded, they found Alex Gonzales-Hernandez, 40, dead inside the vehicle.
The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office says Gonzales was driving north on Bluebonnet Blvd. and went off the roadway in a curve, through a wooden fence. That’s when officials say Gonzales drove through a tree, snapping it into two pieces. After hitting the tree, the vehicle ended up in the pond.
An autopsy will have to confirm the exact cause of death for Gonzales.
