Baton Rouge: 1 killed, toddler critical after shooting at apartment complex

BATON ROUGE — One person was killed and a 1-yr-old was critically injured during a shooting at an apartment complex Tuesday afternoon.

The scene unfolded after 4:30 p.m. at the Colonial Terrace apartments on Wooddale Blvd. near Florida Blvd. Jashawn Neal, 23, was shot multiple times and died on the scene. A 1-yr-old baby was also injured in the same shooting.

The baby was transported in critical condition but expected to recover.

This would mark Baton Rouge’s 27th homicide, according to BRPD statistics. The murder rate is double what it was at this same time last year.

In the month of March alone, there have been 29 separate shooting incidents across the city.
