BATON ROUGE — A barrage of gunfire unleashed outside a convenience store in a Baton Rouge shooting overnight with one of the bullets traveling to a woman asleep in her own bed.
It was just after midnight when Baton Rouge Police officers responded to the Kangaroo Express at 12390 Scotland Ave. That’s near Thomas Rd. Michael Thomas, 51, had been shot several times at the scene. He was rushed to a hospital but did not survive.
Around the same time, officers were also asked to respond a block away to an apartment complex on Bradfield Ave. There, they found a 51-year-old woman who had been shot. Officials say she is in stable condition with a non-life threatening injury after a bullet from the convenience store shooting hit her.
Upon investigating, officers learned one of the bullets from the Kangaroo Express shooting traveled into the woman’s apartment where she was asleep and hit her.
The two locations are about a block apart, which is likely how one of the several rounds fired during the deadly shooting landed elsewhere than the intended target.
No further details have been provided at this time into the shooting or the woman asleep in her bed. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 344-STOP.
