Over 1,300 Livingston kids get toys through 36th annual Christmas Crusade

LIVINGSTON PARISH — On Friday, over 1,300 Livingston Parish children will be able to experience Christmas through the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office annual Christmas Crusade.

The event, which is in its 36th year, served 616 families. Deputies and other volunteers combined to make 616 stops to deliver the toys throughout the parish in a matter of hours.

“It’s just an awesome opportunity for us to give back to our community,” said Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard. “We’re very thankful and blessed that we have the help and people who help us make this happen because we can’t do it alone. Our goal at the end of the day is to help families have a Merry Christmas.”

The Sheriff’s Office accepted donations from those who donated to the three Walmart locations in Livingston Parish and Bass Pro Shop in Denham Springs.

Deputy Chase Carrier has participated in the event for the last 10 years.

“It’s an amazing feeling,” Carrier said. “It feels good just knowing that you are doing something that not many other people have a chance to participate in. We’re going to these people’s homes, into their houses, to put a smile on their faces and to let them know they are loved. It’s an honoring feeling to be a part of this crusade we have.”

Ard said families who didn’t sign up for the crusade should contact the sheriff’s office if they need help.

“If we can’t help them, we have other organizations that have teamed up with us that will help them as well,” he said. “This is what this program is designed for. We ask the community to let us know if you know a family that needs it or if they need it themselves.”
