EAST FELICIANA — The parents whose daughter died melded into their couch have turned themselves into the East Feliciana Parish Prison ahead of their sentencing next month.
Clay and Sheila Fletcher, both 66, went before a judge in East Feliciana Parish on Feb. 5, 2024 where they pleaded no contest to manslaughter, a lesser charge than their original second-degree murder charges they were facing.
The couple was indicted following the death of their daughter Lacey Ellen Fletcher, whose body was covered in her own waste and urine, according to officials. Lacey had bed sores down to her bones and maggots crawling over her remains and weighed only 96 pounds at the time of her death.
She had also been exposed to Covid-19 and had multiple infections. Officials said she may have been on the couch since 2010.
The Fletchers were charged twice by a grand jury. A second-degree murder indictment was handed down in May 2022. It was overturned due to a technicality, and the couple was re-indicted on the same charges a year later.
UWK is told that the Fletchers turned themselves in around 9 a.m. on February 20 without incident. Their sentencing date is March 20, 2024. Manslaughter carries a maximum sentence up to 40 years in Louisiana.
