ST. TAMMANY PARISH — A St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s sergeant, who died in the line of duty earlier this year, was honored with a highway dedication in his name today.
Sergeant Grant Candies was putting spike strips out on Interstate 10 in March when he was hit by a fleeing car and died from his injuries.
Signs marking the ‘Sgt. Grant Candies Memorial Highway’ now stand near the east and westbound Oak Harbor exits on I-10.
STPSO posted about the highway dedication on its Facebook page, saying in part, “Today, his name stands tall for every passerby to see…a constant reminder of his service, his courage, and the void left in our hearts.”
Members of Sgt. Candies’ family were there for the dedication. STPSO thanked the St. Tammany Deputies Association, Senator Patrick McMath, and Senator Bob Owen for helping ensure that Sgt. Candies’ legacy will live on across the community.
