BATON ROUGE — The St. George Fire Department and officials are urging drivers to find alternate routes as Nicholson is currently closed from Gardere to Bluebonnet as crews battle brush fires. This is the area south of Ben Hur.
The brush fires are close to the railroad tracks in the area, which have also been shut down, the St. George Fire Department says.
Traffic is being diverted coming from St. Gabriel on Nicholson down Gardere Lane. Anyone trying to travel south of Ben Hur should seek different routes to avoid getting stuck.
Multiple agencies are on the scene working to contain the multiple small brush fires.
Officials ask residents to use caution when using anything that produces heat and to only dispose of cigarettes in appropriate containers. Avoid driving over dry grass or shrubs that can easily catch fire.
