HAMMOND — Louisiana State Police troopers are requesting the public’s help in identifying a male pedestrian who was hit and killed in a two-vehicle crash early on October 27. The crash happened on I-55 near LA Hwy 40 in Tangipahoa Parish.
The crash happened around 3 a.m. on Oct. 27th, according to LSP. A 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe was going north on I-55 in the left lane while a pedestrian was also walking north in the left lane. For reasons still under investigation, the Hyundai Santa Fe struck the pedestrian, officials say. Before emergency personnel could arrive to the scene, a 2020 Freightliner going north on the interstate also struck the person in the roadway.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Despite scientific testing and an investigation, both LSP and the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office have been unable to confirm the male pedestrian’s identity.
The pedestrian is described as a black male, believed to be between 18–25 years old, approximately 5’8″–5’9″ in height, with dreadlocks. He has distinctive tattoos, including “T.B.T.” on his left inner arm and “Long Live LJ” on the inside of his right arm, LSP reports.
LSP is asking for the public’s help in identifying the man. Anyone with information that may help identify this person is urged to contact Louisiana State Police Troop L at (985) 893-6250.
The drivers of the Hyundai and the Freightliner, who were wearing their seatbelts, were not injured in the crashes, according to LSP. As part of the ongoing investigation, routine toxicology samples were collected from both drivers and the pedestrian for analysis.
