Pilot forced to make emergency landing in Gonzales

It was around 10am when a pilot was forced to make an emergency landing in a pond behind the River Parishes Community College in Gonzales in Ascension Parish.

Officials say the plane had an engine failure forcing the emergency landing.

That specific plane is a 2017 model Cirrus SR22T and comes equipped with a parachute. It’s registered out of Lafayette.

Witnesses told Unfiltered with Kiran they watched the pilot exit out of the plane with the parachute.

Leigh Ann DeBarros, a teacher for the Early College option program, said they heard what sounded like a “scrapping noise of metal grinding against pavement and then heard sirens.”

Officials say the pilot was the only one onboard and no one was hurt.

There was never any threat to the college.

The FAA is now en route to investigate.
