PLAQUEMINE — Plaquemine Councilwoman Wanda Jones turned herself into the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office today to face five felony charges in connection to election fraud.
The Louisiana Secretary of State’s Office investigated the election fraud claims, specifically their Election Integrity Division. The charges stem from Jones allegedly frequently registering ineligible voters to be eligible in the race when she ran for councilwoman in 2024, IPSO said.
After the Secretary of State’s Office wrapped up their investigation, they handed off their findings to District Attorney Tony Clayton, who is responsible for prosecuting crimes in Iberville Parish. Clayton said he had reason to proceed with five counts of felony election offenses affecting registration and election fraud or forgery.
“Fair elections are essential to an organized society. Fortunately our registrar caught this and the participants were not allied to vote,” said Clayton.
Jones is accused of forging registration cards for her own family members.
Clayton added Jones remains a council member until she’s convicted of a felony, if she is convicted.
“It’s never a good day when you have to arrest someone with charges like this,” said Sheriff Stassi.
According to court records, Jones’ bond is set at $25,000 by Judge Alvin Batiste.
