NEW ROADS —- Three Pointe Coupee Parish deputies assigned to the jail have been suspended after an investigation into how a female inmate escaped earlier this month.
On Sunday, April 13th, an inmate (identified as Crystal Palermo) escaped and was located later that night.
Sheriff Rene Thibodaux said that three employees, who were determined to be “at fault of not following policy and procedures,” were placed on unpaid leave during the investigation. Those three have now been suspended.
These suspended employees include a sergeant, one corporal, and one deputy, Thibodaux said.
The sheriff would not specify exactly what the deputies did, but added they did not assist Palermo is escaping and there were no drugs involved. “Complacency and human error is what led up to the inmate walking off,” he told UWK.
Crystal H. Palermo, 42, escaped the parish jail around 8 p.m. Sunday night, April 13th. No details have been released into how she was able to escape the jail.
