POINTE COUPEE — A fire that started on a pier and spread to a boat on False River Monday morning is now under control, nearly two hours after it began.
It was around 11:20 a.m. on May 19th when a home’s pier on the Island side of False River caught on fire. The boat in the pier also caught on fire and then somehow broke off from the pier and started floating in the river.
The concern was the floating boat, that was actively burning, could reach other piers and homes and spread the fire. However, firefighters battled the pier fire from land and had boats to take on the fire to the floating boat. As of 1:15 p.m., both fires are under control. No other structures were damaged.
It’s unclear what led up to the fire.
There were no reported injuries, per officials.
