POINTE COUPEE — Officials in Pointe Coupee say they’re counting their blessings despite heavy storm damage to several parts of the parish.

“It got really bad here,” said Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff Rene Thibodeaux

Over thirty trees are down along Highway 1 near Innis. That’s north of Batchelor and south of Lettsworth in Pointe Coupee Parish.

Pointe Coupee Sheriff Thibodeaux says there are at least four different locations where trees are across the railroad tracks.

“There are several homes without roofs. We have several homes with trees in them but thankfully no serious injuries. We have many trees throughout the parish across the roads and powerlines. One of REA’s main power line is down too,” said Sheriff Thibodeaux.

Damage has been reported in New Roads and Batchelor with winds bringing down trees and tearing down walls of some buildings.

In New Roads, the Parish Home and Farm Hardware Store had a wall knocked out by heavy winds.

In Batchelor there are reports of several trees down.

Sheriff Thibodeaux says they recorded winds up to 60 mph in the parish.
