BATON ROUGE — A 17-year-old accidentally shot on March 18 has died, and charges against the man accused of shooting him have been upgraded.
De’Vonte Coleman was shot in a house on Ozark Street where several people were in a bedroom, police said.
Corey Williams, 24, was initially booked with negligent injuring and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, a police news release said. Jail records show his charge has been changed to negligent homicide.
Police were called to a house in the 3800 block of Ozark Street about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. They found the Coleman with a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
Investigators learned that several people were in a bedroom at the house when the gun “was discharged resulting in the juvenile being struck,” the news release said.
