BATON ROUGE — A Baton Rouge man with multiple prior arrests for gun-related incidents since 2002 was arrested Tuesday in connection with an early morning shooting on Madison Avenue.
According to Baton Rouge Police, Edwin Curry, 40, fired a rifle at a vehicle that had pulled over in the 5100 block of Madison Avenue after a brick was thrown through his windshield. Police say the driver had stopped to call authorities when Curry went into a home, retrieved a rifle, and returned to fire several shots into the driver’s side of the vehicle.
The victim was struck by the barrage of bullets and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Curry was charged with attempted second-degree murder, criminal damage to property, aggravated criminal damage to property, illegal use of a weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and obstruction of justice.
Police did not provide details on what led to the brick being thrown. It is also unclear whether Curry and the victim knew each other.
BRPD stated that Curry has been arrested for multiple gun-related offenses between 2002 and 2022. He has also reportedly faced charges related to illegal narcotics, property damage, assault, and burglary.
Curry is currently being held at the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
