Police identify two-year-old toddler killed after she was hit by a vehicle

BATON ROUGE — The autopsy of a 2-year-old girl, who was allegedly hit by a vehicle, was completed today. The toddler has been identified as Scarlet Carolina Flores Diaz.

It was around 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 21 when Scarlet was hit by an unknown vehicle. Her family rushed to a hospital. Unfortunately, the toddler did not survive her injuries.

The East Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office says their autopsy reveals Scarlet Diaz died from blunt force injuries to the head and the manner of death is an accident.

Baton Rouge Police officers are leading the investigation. It happened in the 2900 block of Wyoming St. That’s off of Nicholson Dr. and W. Roosevelt St.

Despite the coroner’s office ruling the death was an accident, it’s unclear at this time if police are investigating it as an accident or a hit and run. It’s also unclear if any arrests are pending. If anyone has any information on the vehicle involved, you’re asked to call Crime Stoppers at 344-STOP or submit an anonymous tip online.
