Update: 19-year-old charged after robbery turns into gunfight in Gonzales Walmart parking lot

GONZALES — Police have made an arrest following a shooting outside of the Walmart in Gonzales that left at least two people injured.

UWK was the first to report on the shooting that happened before 10 p.m. on January 1.

Ja’ky Joshua, 19, was arrested and charged with attempted second degree murder and negligent injury.

Photos from the scene shared with UWK show crime scene tape and several crime scene number indicators in the parking lot of the store. Witnesses tell UWK that there was a heavy police presence at the Airline Hwy. store around 10 p.m.

Sources say that two people showed up at a Baton Rouge and a Gonzales hospital with injuries. Gonzales Police say “both individuals were treated at local hospitals and released.” Police confirm to UWK that one of the individuals shot was Joshua.

“The investigation revealed that the subjects met in the parking lot to facilitate the sale of an object and it turned into a possible robbery that ended in gunfire,” police said.
