BATON ROUGE — A woman accused of holding two children at gunpoint during the robbery of their mother has been arrested.
Briauna Rogers, 35, was booked April 9 on charges of armed robbery, aggravated battery and two counts of aggravated kidnapping.
The victim told police that a female acquaintance, identified as Rogers, gave her a ride home to her apartment near McClelland Drive and Greenwell Street around midnight on April 1. Rogers’ son was also with them, according to the arrest warrant.
Once outside the apartment, the son reportedly tackled the victim while Rogers struck her in the head multiple times with a handgun, arrest documents say.
Rogers then went through the victim’s purse looking for money, the warrant states.
Investigators say Rogers next held one of the victim’s children at gunpoint and forced him inside the apartment. She continued demanding money and allegedly found some on the victim’s dresser.
Rogers is also accused of holding another of the victim’s sons at gunpoint and forcing both boys out of the apartment. After taking them outside, she allegedly struck the victim again with the handgun, causing it to fire.
That bullet did not hit anyone.
Police say Rogers and her son fled in a black Mazda sedan with no license plate. The victim was taken to a hospital for head swelling caused by the attack.
Rogers is currently on parole in connection with a Mississippi burglary case through 2031.
A warrant has also been issued for Rogers’ 17-year-old son, Markell Rogers, on the same charges. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 344-STOP.
