Ponchatoula man dies in three-vehicle crash in Tangipahoa Parish

PONCHATOULA – Louisiana State Police are investigating a three-vehicle crash that killed a Ponchatoula man Wednesday in Tangipahoa Parish.

Officials say the crash happened shortly after 10 a.m. on La Hwy 22 near West Timberlane Drive. The crash killed 59-year-old Andrew Monistere.

The initial investigation revealed that Monistere was driving a 2014 Chevy Camaro westbound on LA Hwy 22 while a 2022 Chevy Camaro was traveling directly in front of a Ford F-250 eastbound.

For reasons that have not been determined, Monistere’s vehicle crossed the centerline in front of the eastbound vehicles. To avoid a collision, the 2022 Camaro veered off the road into a ditch. Monistere hits the Ford head-on.

Authorities say Monistere was unrestrained and sustained severe injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported to a local hospital before he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the 2022 Chevrolet Camaro was properly restrained and was uninjured. The driver of the Ford was also properly restrained and sustained moderate injuries. The Ford driver was transported to a local hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
