PONCHATOULA — Officers are investigating a tragic death of a 3-year-old child after the police say the toddler was sitting in a nearby parked vehicle for some time. That vehicle had extremely high temperatures inside, police say.
It was on July 10 when Ponchatoula officers responded to a home on Methvin Lane for the death of 3-year-old Jahcari Kash James.
So far in the investigation, detectives believe the child somehow got out of his family’s home and got into an unlocked vehicle parked nearby.
“After family members discovered that the child was missing, they solicited help from neighbors to search the area,” Ponchatoula Police said in a release.
A short time later, the vehicle’s owner found the child in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, where temperatures were extremely high. The child’s family members did everything to save James while waiting on paramedics.
James was transported to North Oaks Medical Center, where he was later died.
The investigation is ongoing. No further details have been released at this time, including whether anyone is facing any charges.
