PORT ALLEN — West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s deputies arrested one person after a shooting at the Emerald Palace Casino along Lobdell Highway on Friday.
West Baton Rouge deputies responded just after 10 p.m. on Jan. 9 in reference to a reported shooting at the Emerald Palace Casino. Once at the scene, deputies observed a suspect vehicle leaving and stopped it a short distance away.
During the investigation, deputies learned that the incident began when a woman, accompanied by a female friend, went to a Port Allen home to confront a man, 22-year-old Jalen Ferguson. As they arrived, Ferguson and another woman were leaving the home, so the two women allegedly followed Ferguson, leading to a confrontation in the parking lot of casino, WBRSO says.
A physical fight broke out among all the individuals, per officials, and Ferguson was sprayed with pepper spray. During the fight, Ferguson allegedly shot a gun. One of the victims was shot in the leg, and the other two victims were struck by bullet fragments.
Per officials, all injuries were non-life-threatening, with two victims transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Deputies arrested Ferguson and booked him into the West Baton Rouge Detention Center on two counts of aggravated second-degree battery. One of the victims declined to pursue charges at this time, per WBRSO.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional arrests are possible.
