Port Allen: Teen arrested after shooting in vehicle leaves one dead

PORT ALLEN — A 24-year-old was killed after a shooting Sunday evening in Port Allen in West Baton Rouge Parish.

Jacolby Jones, 24, showed up at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge on Airline Hwy. around 7:15 p.m. on July 7 for a gunshot injury. After some questioning, East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s deputies learned the shooting happened in Port Allen and that’s when EBRSO called the Port Allen Police Dept.

PAPD started investigating and officers say Jones had a single gunshot wound that killed him.

Their investigation so far reveals that 17-year-old Lawrence Williams was in the same vehicle as the victim. The teenager, who was a passenger in the vehicle, fired one time inside the vehicle hitting Jones, according to PAPD.

Jones was taken to a hospital by a private vehicle but died from his injuries.

Meanwhile, Williams was arrested Monday morning, July 8th and charged with one count of illegal possession of a firearm by a juvenile and one count of negligent homicide. Despite his age, PAPD says he is being charged as an adult.

It’s unclear at this time if the shooting inside the vehicle was accidental or not.

A booking photo was not provided due to Act No. 494, which places restrictions on mugshots released to the media for most offenses with exceptions for certain violent crimes.
