EAST BATON ROUGE —- A car crash led to a 48-year-old man getting out of his car early Tuesday morning and then being struck by two vehicles, including a garbage truck.
It was around 5 a.m. on July 29th when Travis Weams, 48, was driving a 2012 Toyota Camry and crashed on Airline Hwy. northbound near Manchac Park Road.
After that crash, State Police Troopers say Weams got out of his car, crossed the median, and walked into the northbound lane of Airline Hwy. At the same time, a 2019 Mack garbage truck hit Weams. After initial impact, he was hit again by a 2016 Ford Mustang.
Weams died on the scene.
Troopers say the drivers of the Mack truck and the Mustang were properly buckled and were not injured. Impairment is not suspected for either driver, but standard toxicology samples were collected.
