UPDATE: As of 8:40pm, the issue has been fixed and the roads are back open.

ORIGINAL:

A gas leak has shut down traffic on Nicholson Dr. (Hwy. 30) around the Bluebonnet/Lexington Lakes area. River road is also shut down from L’Auberge crossing to the parish line with the help of Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office & any KCS railroad traffic that would go through the impacted area is shut down as well.

St. George firefighters went out to the area earlier but did not find anything. Then, around 7pm, they were able to locate a line that’s possibly leaking gas from a valve.

With officials currently out on the scene, details are limited as to exactly what’s leaking, what started it and how quickly it’ll be fixed.

Sources said it could be ethylene, hydrogen or natural gas. All the companies are on their way to the scene to determine which one it is and the cause.

No evacuations have been ordered at this time. If that changes, officials will notify ordering the evacuation.

Hwy. 30 is closed from Gardere to University Club. If you live in University Club, you can get into the neighborhood by going through St. Gabriel. Homeowners in Lexington Lakes cannot access their homes right now.
