PRAIRIEVILLE — Two people are dead after a four-vehicle crash on I-10 East in Ascension Parish on Wednesday.
It was just after 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12 when Louisiana State Police troopers responded to a four-vehicle crash on I-10 near milepost 169. The crash caused traffic closures and backup for hours.
LSP identified the two victims in the crash as 35-year-old Alyssia Stewart and 37-year-old Dusharne Stewart, both of Prairieville.
According to officials, a 2022 Ford F-250 was going east on I-10 in the left lane behind a 2017 Nissan Altima, driven by Alyssia Stewart.
For reasons still under investigation, the Ford hit the back of the Nissan. The Stewarts then hit the back of a 2026 Kia Carnival, which then rear-ended a 2023 GMC Yukon, creating a chain reaction.
Alyssia Stewart and her passenger, Dusharne Stewart, were both wearing their seatbelts and transported to a local hospital, where they died of their injuries. The driver of the Kia was also properly restrained and transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. The drivers of the Ford and GMC were properly restrained and reported no injuries, per State Police.
Routine toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis.
The crash is under investigation, and charges are pending the outcome of that investigation.
