BATON ROUGE — Kurt Wall has officially been confirmed and sworn in to serve as the next U.S. Attorney for the Middle District. He started his new role on Oct. 14, 2025.
It comes after President Donald Trump nominated Wall in May 2025 for the job and the U.S. Senate confirmed with their votes. That’s federal court, which represents nine area parishes: Ascension, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Iberville, Livingston, Pointe Coupee, St. Helena, West Baton Rouge and West Feliciana.
“I am extremely grateful to President Trump for this opportunity to serve. I am also very thankful to Senator Cassidy and Senator Kennedy for their support through the confirmation process. We have a lot of important work to do to make our community safer, and I am ready to hit the ground running!” Wall told UWK.
Wall, who recently retired as the chief felony prosecutor with the 21st Judicial District Court, brings over 30 years of law experience to the position.
“lt is an honor to receive that trust and certainty, something that I do not take lightly,” Wall said.
Wall has worked with the Livingston Parish District Attorney’s Office since 2016. Prior to that, he worked at the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office as the director of their criminal division. Before that, he was with the District Attorney’s Office in East Baton Rouge Parish from 1994 to 2007. He’s also served in roles such as Special Assistant to the United States Secretary of Education and Special Assistant and Anti-Drug Coordinator for United States Congressman Joe Barton.
“ln my thirty years as a prosecutor, I have been fortunate to work with many of our federal partners, and I am aware that there are some very talented people in those offices who are dedicated to making our community safer. I look forward to working with them to make a definite impact on the violent crime that is raging out of control in our region,” Wall added.
After the president nomination, the next step in the process was Wall’s nomination that was sent to the U.S. Senate. A Judiciary Committee was scheduled. They then voted to recommend him, sending his nomination to the whole senate. Their approval sealed the deal.

Additionally, his senior leadership positions at the Attorney General’s Office and 21 JDC District Attorney’s Office make him exceptionally well suited to lead to that office.”

Kurt is perfectly suited to carry out the responsibilities of the job and will be a tremendous asset to the men and women of the Middle District.”
