DENHAM SPRINGS — The State Fire Marshal’s Office needs the public’s help in identifying and finding a suspect wanted in connection with a fire at Seventh Ward Elementary School on Aug. 31.
The Denham Springs Fire Department responded to a fire at the school just after midnight on Saturday, Aug. 31. Firefighters were able to control the fire within 30 minutes and had it fully extinguished it within an hour.
The temporary building, which was used for a special needs classroom and the nursing station, is considered a total loss. No other buildings were damaged.
Classroom space and a temporary nurse’s station have been set up in the main building on campus, according to Principal Laura Dunlap.
Officials say the fire appears to be intentional and deputies are now looking for a suspect who was seen on surveillance. The alleged suspect was seen wearing a light-colored t-shirt, jeans and a dark-colored baseball cap. Deputies believe the person walked onto the grounds and also left by foot.
