State Police make arrest in Denham Springs hit & run where a bicyclist was killed

LIVINGSTON PARISH — Louisiana State Police troopers have made an arrest nearly three weeks since a 46-yr-old Denham Springs man on a bicycle was hit and left for dead.

Troopers identified the driver of the pickup truck as Timothy Bandy, 41, of Denham Springs. Bandy was booked into the Livingston Parish jail on March 15, 2024 for hit and run resulting in death or injury, negligent homicide, obstruction of justice and other traffic related charges.

On February 24, 2024, just before 2:30 am, Louisiana State Police Troopers responded to a deadly crash on LA 1026 at Gene Buckel Avenue in Denham Springs.

Earl Jones, 46, of Denham Springs, died in the crash.

The preliminary investigation shows that Jones was riding a bicycle west on LA 1026 when someone in an unknown truck hit him from behind. That driver was also headed west on LA 1026.

Jones died on the scene, according to officials. The driver of the unknown vehicle did not stop and left the scene of the crash.

Troopers were able to get surveillance video and identify a light-colored pickup truck, possibly a single cab heavy-duty with rooftop lights as a vehicle of interest. The pickup truck had damage to the front end and passenger side.

  1. The same way you and I may be out on the roads at 2:30 in the morning coming and going from our events, so would Earl (Boo). Only difference is, his only transportation was a bicycle his whole life. He could not speak or hear and was a talented artist with his drawings in my opinion. Should anyone be on a bicycle on the highways especially at night, NO. Bottom line is nobody should be ran over and left for dead!! This is not the first time Boo has been hit on his bicycle and left for dead. He survived a previous one by the Grace of God.
Boo had a hard life and nobody deserves to get away with hitting someone and leaving the scene and not try to get that person help. You would not do that to an animal, why would you do it to a human being.
    Rest In Peace Cuz

  2. That person hit his dog too! A Good Samaritan took his dog to the Vet and paid over $ 250 dollars for his care. And adopted the dog! What a Blessing! RIP sir, knowing your beautiful dog is being taken care of by a special man who you didn’t even know. Praying God reveals the person who hit you and left you; justice for you and your pet .

  3. Someone had mentioned that Earl (“Boo”) was having problems with kidney stones & was in a lot of pain. He had rode his bike to an ER in Walker for help. Not sure he was ever seen, after hours of waiting, so he left & headed home, & was in very short distance of it when he was hit.
Please keep this horrible tragedy fresh in people minds by sharing often.đź’”
