WALKER — Hammond Police officers attempted to stop a motorcyclist whose driver was not wearing a helmet. Instead, the driver led officers on a pursuit into Livingston Parish triggering multiple neighboring agencies to assist.
The pursuit was around Noon on July 8. Hammond PD says the motorcyclist refused to stop, leading officers on a pursuit that left the City of Hammond and continued into Livingston Parish, ending in the Walker area on Ball Park Rd.
After the motorcyclist crashed, he tried to run but was quickly caught by a Hammond K-9 unit. The driver is now in custody. His name has not been released at this time.
The driver will initially be booked into the Livingston Parish Jail as a fugitive before being turned over to HPD to face additional charges.
Multiple neighboring agencies joined in to assist Hammond PD such as State Police & Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office.
“Our message is simple,” said Hammond Police Chief Edwin Bergeron Jr. “When people refuse to obey lawful orders from our officers, we will pursue them, we will catch them, and we will put them in jail. Our officers and our K-9 partner did an outstanding job today, and I appreciate their professionalism and dedication throughout this incident.”
