With a few days left before Christmas, families are gathering together to spend time during the holiday season.
Whether you’re listening on the radio or doing some last-minute Christmas shopping, Christmas tunes are heard blaring from sound systems all over.
A recent study breaks down the country’s most liked Christmas songs by state as well as the most annoying.
FinanceBuzz used Google Trends to find the most popular Christmas song in each state and surveyed over 1,200 adults in the U.S. to find the most annoying one. In some states, the most popular song and most annoying were the same.
FinanceBuzz collected Google Trends search data on the 25 highest-charting Christmas songs on the Billboard Hot 100 for the week of Christmas 2022.
According to FinanceBuzz, the data for each song was collected individually. To break ties, songs were compared head-to-head directly within the Trends platform. The time frame for the collected data was set to “Past five years.” The data was collected on November 19, 2024.
According to the data, the most popular song in Louisiana was “Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer.” It was also listed as the most popular song in Alabama and Kansas.
“Jingle Bells” was the most popular song in the country this year and has claimed the top spot in 14 different states across the country, more than double the amount of states the second most popular song was popular in.
According to FinaceBuzz, the second-most popular holiday song across states was “Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow!”, ranking as the favorite in six states. Meanwhile, four songs shared third place, each topping the charts in three states: “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “Last Christmas,” “It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” and “Deck The Halls.”
Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas” is extremely popular, but for every person who loves the song, someone is tired of hearing it. The classic was voted as the most annoying Christmas song. Second on the list was “The Chipmunk Song,” also known as “Christmas Don’t Be Late,” sung by Alvin and the Chipmunks. “Feliz Navidad”rounded out the Top 3.
