Recent Walker High graduate drowned in Livingston Parish

A group of friends went swimming off of Sims Rd. in Watson in Rock Quarry, known as a gravel pit in Livingston Parish, around 7:45pm on May 11, 2022.

An 18-yr-old started struggling and eventually went underwater. Sources said his friends tried to help him but when they started struggling themselves, they had to come back up.

“It was learned that several friends were there to swim. While swimming, one male began to struggle. We know several friends tried to assist. But, he went under water and didn’t resurface,” said Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard.

The Livingston Parish Fire District #4 responded to the scene as well as the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office’s Dive Team.

It was shortly before 11pm when officials said the dive team recovered Roderick Thompson Jr.’s body. No foul play is suspected.

Thompson, 18, had graduated Walker High in 2021.
